What are Epoxy Coatings?
Epoxy coatings are based on a combination of resins and hardeners that are mixed prior to application. When mixed together, the resin and hardener chemically react to produce a hard, chemical and solvent resistant finish. It is the specific selection and combination of the epoxy component and the hardener component that determines the final characteristics and suitability of the epoxy coating for a given environment. Epoxy coatings are so strong that they’re often used in the most demanding environments such as industrial environments, hospitals, or sports facilities. Epoxy coatings resistance to high levels of wear and tear, making it the most long-lasting flooring options.

Epoxy Coatings vs. Epoxy Paints (Home Improvement Kits) for Garage Floors:
Epoxy paints which most will usually find in your home improvement store or local paint store are paints which is blended with epoxy resin and referred to as a one part epoxy paint. This is not the same as an epoxy coating which are two component and have a very high percentage epoxy solids. Generally we use a 100% solids epoxy coating which is all epoxy with no fillers or solvents. The percentage of solids mean how much of the epoxy product will be left on the actual floor after the curing process has taken place. The greater the percentage solids, the thicker the layer of protection will be left when cured. Most of the DIY kits that you find in your home improvement store are a very low solids amount, 10%-20% solids. When you apply these kits and they cure you are left with a very thin coat, versus our 100% solids applied at the same rate per gallon once cured will be 5x-10x thicker. Other major advantages to using 100% solids epoxy coating versus epoxy paint is hot tire resistance. Once you pull out a vehicle with hot tires on a DIY Kit applied to a garage floor, the paint will stick to the tire and pull right off of the concrete substrate.

FAQ’s
Is an epoxy flooring system durable?
Yes, epoxy flooring can be one of the most durable flooring systems available. 100% solid epoxy is the most durable option with the best protection against spills and chemicals. The best way to ensure a durable final product is a professional epoxy flooring installation. Our installers take the time to carefully prepare your concrete prior to application to ensure excellent adhesion and cure strength.
How Is the Floor Prepped Prior to the Epoxy?
Proper preparation of your concrete slab for epoxy is the secret to a long-lasting and beautiful floor. Our installers take as much time as necessary to prepare the concrete without cutting corners. How your floor needs to be prepped will depend on the condition of your concrete. Any cracks or seams will be filled or repaired prior to applying an epoxy coating. Your concrete whether new or old will be grinded or shotblasted to create a clean, porous surface. This is the key to durability and longevity of the coating.
How Long Does an Epoxy Flooring Job Usually Take?
Most garage floors require at least 1-2 days to prepare, repair and applying the epoxy coating to the surface. Immediately after your epoxy floor coating is applied, everything should be kept off the floor for 24 hours. Vehicles and heavy objects should be kept off the floor for 72 hours. It takes about 7 days for epoxy to fully cure. During this time, avoid washing or scrubbing the floor.
Are There Different Color Options of Epoxy?
Epoxy floors come in a huge array of colors ranging from neutral tones to vibrant reds, greens, and yellows. Colors can also be combined by adding two or more different color chips. For a truly unique floor, we can also install a metallic epoxy floor.
